RECORDS OF GRAVITY
RECORDS OF GRAVITY is Sarah Pschorn’s choice of title for her exhibition at the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus in Bremen. She belongs to a generation of younger artists who no longer regard an exhibition space as a “white cube” [...] Instead, the spatial configuration of a building itself becomes part of a more encompassing artwork in which a story unfolds – or a number of stories at once. [...] Sarah Pschorn’s first move is to close off one of the anterior side exhibition rooms and leave it unused – a fundamental intervention in the building’s morphology. [...] Not rigidity, but movement.
The exhibition "Records of Gravity" in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus shows
ceramic sculptures and assemblages by the Leipzig artist Sarah Pschorn (born 1989). Over the past two years, the sculptor has created ceramic sculptures and expansive installations in an exploration of the theme of gravity - a kind of visual parcours of organic bodies in the form of seesaws, heaps, columns, folds, waves or clouds emerges. With baroque allusions, the works sharpen the contradiction between lightness and heaviness and the expectations of the materials used, and raise questions of temporality: Volatility, dynamics and spontaneous sculptural gestures are frozen and condensed by the firing process. Under the terms "balance", "heaviness", "paradise" and "cloudy", collections of experiments and observations are shown in five rooms. At times, earthly laws no longer seem to play a role and fantastic worlds emerge.
